June 15, 1969-September 7, 1969; December 17, 1969-July 13, 1971 (CBS); 1971-1992 (Syndicated). "Hee Haw" was a fast-paced mixture of songs, skits, blackouts, and corny jokes. A syndicated version of the show appeared; by 1977 it was the nation's number-one-rated non-network show. The series was co-hosted by Buck Owens and Roy Clark (by the late 1980s, Owens and Clark appeared only occasionally, having made room for various guest hosts). A large stable of regular performers have been featured, including Louis M. ("Grandpa") Jones, Junior Samples, Jeannine Riley, Lulu Roman, David Akeman ("Stringbean"), Sherry Miles, Lisa Todd, Minnie Pearl, Gordie Tapp, Diana Scott, Cathy Baker and Barbi Benton.1975-11-18, NBC, 60 min.

In 1979, the show was retitled "Dinah and Friends" as Dinah employed a weekly co-host. In some markets "Dinah!" ran for 60 minutes...edited version of the 90 minutes show.1975-12-07, WCBS, 52 min.

October 1, 1962-May 22, 1992. Johnny Carson, host of NBC's network late-night "Tonight Show" reigned for 30 unprecedented years...five times the combined tenure of Steve Allen, and Jack Paar. Carson was impervious to competition, including efforts to dethrone him by Les Crane, Joey Bishop, Merv Griffin, Dick Cavett, Jack Paar, Pat Sajak, Joan Rivers, and Arsenio Hall. Sadly, very few complete "Tonight Show" broadcasts survive during Johnny Carson's first ten years of broadcasting. Around 1965, through the early 1970's, oldest tapes were first erased systematically by orders from myopic NBC executives, to be recycled for purposes of saving money. Ironically, in many cases, these older master tapes were too brittle, and portended probable drop-outs for re-use after being erased. Subsequently blank after being erased, these older questionable master 2" Quad tapes were either sparingly used or never used again for recording new programming and eventually were discarded. Saving thousands of dollars at the time (wiping master tapes for potential re-use) resulted in losing millions of dollars by NBC in today's marketplace, and more importantly wiping thousands of historic TONIGHT SHOW broadcasts, which contain precious personal anecdotes from political, show business, and sports icons of the past.
Guests: Steve Landesberg, Pat Boone, Pete Fountain. NOTE: This specific TONIGHT SHOW may only contain an opening monologue by Johnny Carson. Other content, as listed, will have to be monitored and confirmed upon your order request.1978-05-08, ABC, 120 min.

Substituting for Johnny Carson is David Letterman. Johnny Carson hosted "The Tonight Show" for thirty years, five-times the combined tenure of Jerry Lester, Steve Allen & Jack Paar, the first hosts of late night television. Carson hosted more total hours of network programming than anyone before him or since. Only a handful of broadcasts from 1962-1971 survive. Most were discarded in the '60s & '70s.1979-12-08, WABC, 52 min.
