This was the first televised concert from Lincoln Center in New York City. Conducted by Abraham Kaplan and Hugh Ross. Host: Alistair Cooke. Viewers across the country join first-nighters in New York City for an event of national significance; the opening of Lincoln Center for the performing arts. When completed, the center's five buildings will house the Metropolitan Opera, a repertory theater, a ballet company, a school of music and the New York Philharmonic. Tonight from Philharmonic Hall, Leonard Bernstein conducts the dedicatory concert. Soloists: Eileen Farrell, Richard Tucker, George London, Shirley Verrett-Carter, Lucine Amara, Charles Bressler, Jennie Tourel, Adele Addison, Lili Chookasian, Donald Bell, Jon Vickers, and Ezio Flagello. Choral groups: Schola Cantorum, Juilliard Chorus, Columbus Boychoir. During intermission, host Alistair Cooke visits backstage. Robert Saudek produced the live two-hour program.
