Order1967-01-30, SYN, 14 min.
1965-1967 (SYN) Thirty-minute talk show starring host, Gypsy Rose Lee. Gypsy Rose Lee, who is generally credited with introing the idea of gab as an adjunct of peeling, is still talking on this ABC-TV syndicated strip now being distributed by Seven Arts. This show debuted on KGO-TV in San Francisco (the station that produces it) in April and was picked up by KABC-TV in Los Angeles a month later and is now on WBKB-TV Chicago. Miss Lee is a greatly uninhibited and somewhat undisciplined hostess, both factors which provide the best and worst of the show. She's quite well-informed and widely experienced and has a considerable knack of showing interest in and contagious appreciation of her guests. Guests: Lainie Kazan, Eartha Kitt.

Order1973-05-08, SYN, 14 min.
October 1, 1962-March 29, 1963 (NBC); 1965-1969 (Syndicated); August 18, 1969-February 11, 1972 (CBS); 1972-1986 (Syndicated). Guests: Eartha Kitt, Joe Flynn from Las Vegas. Segments with Earths Kitt and Joe Flynn is a fourteen-minute excerpt. On this May 8th, 1973 broadcast, Miss Miller is interviewed by Merv Griffin for an unusual extended time. Miss Miller was first a regular audience member of The Tonight Show throughout Steve Allen's and Jack Paar's tenures as hosts. Miss Miller was even brought along when the New York City-based show would go on location to places such as Havana, Cuba, Hollywood, California and Niagara Falls. She became such a fixture on the show she joined AFTRA, the TV actors union. When Paar left Tonight to start his prime-time Jack Paar program in 1962, Miss Miller then became a regular on that program as well as The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson and the Merv Griffin Show. On at least one Paar program, shown on November 29th, 1962, Miss Miller was an onstage guest alongside Liberace and Cassius Clay.

October 1, 1962-May 22, 1992. Johnny Carson, host of NBC's network late-night "Tonight Show" reigned for 30 unprecedented years...five times the combined tenure of Steve Allen, and Jack Paar. Carson was impervious to competition, including efforts to dethrone him by Les Crane, Joey Bishop, Merv Griffin, Dick Cavett, Jack Paar, Pat Sajak, Joan Rivers, and Arsenio Hall. Sadly, very few complete "Tonight Show" broadcasts survive during Johnny Carson's first ten years of broadcasting. Around 1965, through the early 1970's, oldest tapes were first erased systematically by orders from myopic NBC executives, to be recycled for purposes of saving money. Ironically, in many cases, these older master tapes were too brittle, and portended probable drop-outs for re-use after being erased. Subsequently blank after being erased, these older questionable master 2" Quad tapes were either sparingly used or never used again for recording new programming and eventually were discarded. Saving thousands of dollars at the time (wiping master tapes for potential re-use) resulted in losing millions of dollars by NBC in today's marketplace, and more importantly wiping thousands of historic TONIGHT SHOW broadcasts, which contain precious personal anecdotes from political, show business, and sports icons of the past. Guest: Eartha Kitt Excerpt, incomplete.
