June 24, 1956-December 27, 1961. The multi-talented Steve Allen- musician, composer, singer, comedian,author- was the star of this live weekly variety series that bore a strong resemblance to his informal, late-night Tonight! Show. Although the program had elements of music and serious aspects, comedy was far and away its major component. Steve had with him one of the most versatile and talented collections of improvisational comics ever assembled. Among the features that were used at one time or another on a semi-regular basis were: "Letters to the Editor," "The Allen Report to the Nation," "Mad-Libs," "Crazy Shots," "Where Are They Now," "The Question Man," "The Allen Bureau of Standards," and "The Allen All Stars." The most frequently used feature, and by far the most memorable, was the "Man on the Street Interview." It was here that the comics on the show developed their best-remembered characters: Louis Nye as suave, smug Gordon Hathaway, Tom Poston as the man who can't remember his own name, Skitch Henderson as Sidney Ferguson, Don Knotts as the extremely nervous and fidgety Mr Morrison, Pat Harrington as Italian golf pro Guido Panzini, and Bill Dana as shy Jose Jimenez.1959-04-06, NBC, min.

Charles Collingwood interviews Kim Novak. Rebroadcast of October 6, 1960. Many topics are explored including Kim's love of hats, the many projects she is currently enamored with including her paintings and construction of a fallout shelter which in her opinion is vital to create. Kim Novak's long time childhood friend, Barbara Mellon, is introduced. She assists Kim with her many projects. Other topics are discussed including Kim's opportunity, through her actor friend Cantinflas to actually fight a bull for real. Kim's latest film Strangers in the Night is mentioned (a working title, "Strangers Underneath," is mentioned), and more thoughts on her passion of painting and one she did of a painter painting Kim Novak herself entitled, "An artist painting Kim." Miss Novak relates her father and his personality...love of sculpting frames...making a snowman with her nephews out of clay...priorities in life. Kim states that she has little social life, reads four scripts a day... personally a frustrated writer, and her best way of choosing a role is to see if she can add dimension to the character she is playing. Kim agrees that her career has developed very rapidly, and it has been challenging to evolve into the celebrity she has become, for she is actually a very shy person.

Walter Cronkite, who began anchoring the CBS Evening News only three and a half months prior to this newscast, reports on the death of Marilyn Monroe. By closed circuit television, he also discusses the tragic death with Kim Novak and signs off the air with his familiar "And That's The Way It Is Aug. 6th 1962." Partial Transcript: Walter Cronkite: "Good Evening from the CBS News Headquarters in New York." Announcer: "This is the Evening News Edition of CBS News with Walter Cronkite. Brought to you by Dristan. WC: " Capturing the world attention caused by her death. Even the Russians today sat in judgement calling her a victim of Hollywood. In Hollywood today a team of doctors and psychiatrists were still trying to determine exactly what she was a victim of. Her own hand or an accident? But the coroners inquest can only tell us how Marilyn Monroe died, and not why? Why with everything to live for with fame and fortune in their grasp are so many of our movie queens desperately unhappy. By closed circuit television I asked that question to Miss Kim Novak in Hollywood this afternoon. Kim Novak responds and discusses her insight with Walter Cronkite in a four minute segment.
